Here we are headed down a trail to the park's swimming area. It was about a 1.5 mile easy hike from our campsite, very wooded and quiet. We were the only ones on the trail, I think everyone else opted to drive.

Campin'
Cody and I decided it has been too long since we did a little camping and threw together a last minute car camping trip. We headed west towards the mountains in NC and ended up at Lake James State Park. We needed to test out all our new "family friendly" camp gear anyhow before Bonnaroo, so no time like the present and nothing says summer like camping, right?

Obviously, the swimming area and beach. You can almost spot Cody and Sam, they are directly in the middle of the photo. Cody has his back to the picture. It was a little crowded, so I can only imagine what the place is like in mid July when the temperatures are reaching close to 100 with humidity. The weather was perfect for us, mid 80's for most of the day. Th e campsites were awesome, all lakeside, except for a few...we unfortunately got there late on Friday and had an off shore site. It was still very nice, private and clean.
A very sleepy Sambo. He did great for his inaugural camp trip. The first night was rough, he was overwhelmed and overstimulated by the whole experience. He eventually settled in and slept the whole night, well 11:00-6:30...good considering he was outside, it rained and it got chilly. He took his regular naps in the tent and was overall super.
No mosquitoes, but a lot of other pesky, bitey, buggy things. Poor Cody, always gets the brunt of the insects brutality.
Early morning, Sam looked so cute watching the camp fire and his Dad making coffee.
Sam now thinks he needs no hands to eat, he just hangs out with whole pieces of food clenched between his teeth like a dog. I remember lil' Dennis used to the same thing with his toys, he'd carry them around in his mouth.
Getting ready to pack up and leave, isn't he so cute?
We will definitely go back to Lake James, only next time we will bring a hand truck. The sites were a bit of a hike from the parking lot, it took us over an hour to load and unload the car. A bit tough, since we had so much extra stuff to accommodate Sam. That was our weekend in a nut shell, we are ALL so tired! Going to bed now.
