Fourth of July Fun

We decided to split town for the long weekend, and head to Asheville, NC... it is perhaps one of my favorite places in North Carolina. It is one part beautiful, one part historic and two parts hippy. The smell of patchouli is strong here!
We thought we would escape the heat, but it was really hot there too. The humidity was so high, but it didn't stop us. We ventured out Saturday night for a concert downtown, there was blue grass, square dancing and lots of kids running around barefoot.
Sunday was a full day of hiking at Chimney Rock Park. Sam was a total rock star and climbed the whole thing, it was mostly stairs! Annarose took the easy way up in the back pack, which took her some time to get used to it. She didn't like being strapped in at all, but once we were up and moving she didn't mind the view one bit. It was a great spot and I am glad we got in early, the crowds were mounting by noon when we were heading out, and it was so HOT! We watched the ambulance and fire department roll up to rescue some downed tourists. That night, we were hoping to catch some fireworks... but we really kept the kiddos hopping all day. They were both pretty tired. So, we had some dinner at a brewpub and then took Sam to a Splash Park. It is right there in the middle of downtown, so refreshing to see fountains that kids can actually play in. The children were all in heaven, the air was hot and heavy! It was fun to watch these guys go nuts.
Asheville is home to a lot of unique shops, galleries, restaurants, confectionaries, bakeries and of course Biltmore Estate, home to the Vanderbilt's. It is a completely amazing getaway, if you are ever looking to get down this way. It is a must see!
